Cleveland Indians vs. Texas Rangers (8:05 PM ET)
Line: Cleveland Indians (-135) at Texas Rangers (+125); total: 9.0 – view all MLB lines
Corey Kluber (13-8, 3.13 ERA) continues to cement his candidacy for this year’s AL Cy Young Award, logging in another solid start in last week’s win over the Blue Jays. In that game, he tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball and posted a total of eight K’s to capture his 13th win of the season. Kluber, who will start this game for the Indians, has now gone 5-0 with a 1.78 ERA in his previous eight starts. Cleveland, which is one of the leading favorites (+275) to win the AL pennant, went 6-2 in that stretch.
As for the Rangers, they’re sending out Martin Perez (8-9, 4.27 ERA) to the mount. He’s set to make his second career start versus the Indians and heads into this matchup owning a 1-4 record with a 5.19 ERA through eight starts since the All-Star break. That’s definitely not a good sign for the hosts, who are also priced at +275 to claim the American League title.
Writer’s Prediction
Cleveland (-135) wins it, 4-1.
Chicago Cubs vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Chicago Cubs (-110) at Los Angeles Dodgers (EVEN); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
Mike Montgomery (4-5, 2.41 ERA) made sure to impress when he made his first start as a member of the Cubs during last weekend’s matchup with the Rockies. He registered 4 1/3 innings of one-run ball and delivered five strikeouts under his belt to lead his team to the dominant 9-2 victory. Montgomery is 2-3 with an ERA of 2.65 on the road this season.
The Dodgers, meanwhile, are countering with Bud Norris (6-10, 4.69 ERA). He was limited to just 3 2/3 innings in his last start, as he was rocked for six earned runs on seven hits in an eventual loss to Cincinnati. He’ll look to redeem himself from that miserable outing tonight at Dodger Stadium, where Norris is 4-4 with a 2.77 ERA across 16 games (nine starts) this year.
Los Angeles and Chicago are priced at +475 and +150, respectively, to win the NL pennant.
Writer’s Prediction
Cubs (-110) win it, 4-2.
