Haiti will head to its crunch clash with Honduras with momentum on its side after its heroic showing against the United States on Friday night. The Haitians were unlucky to lose 1-0 to the reigning champions as they dominated possession against their highly-fancied opponents.
[sc:Soccer240banner ]All is not lost yet for Haiti, though, as a victory against Honduras later tonight will send them to the last-eight of the Gold Cup for just the third time in its history. The Haitians will have their work cut out for them, however, against a Honduras side that has reached the semifinals in four of the past five Gold Cup editions. That being said, Honduras has struggled of late as it has not won in its last five games.
Both teams are tied at the bottom of Group A with one point apiece. They both drew 1-1 against second-placed Panama (two points).
The U.S. Men’s National Team maintained its perfect start in the 2015 Gold Cup, blanking Haiti, 1-0, on Friday to book a place in the tournament quarterfinals. Clint Dempsey scored the winning goal for the Americans who clinched the top spot in Group A with the victory. Dempsey has been superb for the Americans in this tournament, already scoring a whopping three goals. He’s the only USA player to find the net so far in this event.
Next up for Team USA is a clash with Panama. The Los Canaleros will be playing for their tournament lives as a loss tonight will likely send the 2013 Gold Cup finalists home. Expected to lead the Panama attack is veteran Luis Tejada. He has scored 38 goals in 82 appearances for the national team.
