Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox (7:00 PM ET)
Line: Toronto Blue Jays (EVEN) at Boston Red Sox (-110); total: 9.5 – view all MLB lines
Marcus Stroman’s days as a Blue Jay might be numbered, but he’s still going to make the start for Toronto tonight against Boston. Stroman is coming off a terrific outing against the Houston Astros, as he gave up just one run in seven innings. However, he’s had his problems with the Red Sox. He’s given up at least five runs in each of his last four starts against Boston.
The Red Sox will counter with Eduardo Rodriguez, who is about to make his first start since coming off the DL. Rodriguez had a solid rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket as he gave up just one run on six hits with seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings. He’ll look to lift the struggling Red Sox to a rare win streak. Boston is just 3-6 in its last nine games.
Writer’s Prediction: The Red Sox (-110) get to Stroman once again to grab the home win.
Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Braves (7:35 PM ET)
Line: Chicago Cubs (-155) at Atlanta Braves (+140); total 9.0– view all MLB lines here
The Cubs have made a great start to the second half of the season as they swept the Baltimore Orioles in their recent three-game series. The Cubbies scored 27 runs over the three games, while their starting pitching was strong in their last two games. Hopefully, veteran starter Jon Lester can follow suit and recover from his poor outing last time out, when he gave up 10 runs (four earned) on six hits in just 0.2 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
As for the Atlanta Braves, they’re also coming off a confidence-boosting sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks which saw them reach .500 for the first time since April 17. Julio Teheran will now be tasked to get them above .500 for the first time all season when he gets the start. The righty is coming off his best start of the season as he went seven scoreless innings in a 13-0 win over the Washington Nationals. Teheran has recorded a quality start in five of his last six outings.
Writer’s Prediction: Lester bounces back as the Cubs (-155) beat the Braves.
