Football is definitely back, even if we’re just being rationed with preseason games that feature a boatload of third-stringers. Regardless of the quality of players on the field, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers meeting later tonight should still be a must watch football spectacle. Over at the MLB, the San Francisco Giants look to score a win at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

[sc:MLB240banner ]After falling to the Pirates, 3-2, on Saturday, San Francisco looks to end the four-game series on a high note as the Giants send Ryan Vogelsong (9-8, 3.93 ERA) to the mound. Vogelsong pitched well in his last two starts, wherein he collected a 2-0 record, allowing just an earned run in 11 total innings. The Giants are 3-1 in Vogelsong’s last four starts overall. Vogelsong will go up against Francisco Liriano, who’s been some kind of a lucky charm for the Pirates. The Pirates are 9-0 in the last nine starts of Liriano, who’ll bring an 8-5 record and a 3.35 ERA to PNC Park later tonight.
Writer’s Prediction
San Francisco wins, 5-3.
Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers (8:00 PM ET)
Line: Dallas Cowboys (+4.5) vs. San Francisco 49ers (-4.5); total: 40.0– view all NFL lines
Following a forgettable preseason debut by Dallas last Thursday against San Diego, the Cowboys return to the field later tonight to face the 49ers. Tony Romo appears to be hesitant to play given the poor condition at Levi’s Stadium, but in any case, this should be a good game for the likes of Brandon Weeden and Dustin Vaughan to prove which quarterback should be Romo’s main backup. The 49ers, meanwhile, are also coming off a loss and are hoping Jarryd Hayne could build on his strong preseason Week 1 performance, when he run for 63 yards on five carries in a 23-10 loss to Houston. The Cowboys are 3-1 SU in their last four trips to San Francisco. The under is 6-1 in the 49ers’ last seven home games.
Writer’s Prediction
San Francisco (+4.5) wins, 28-24.
