Line: New York Rangers (+105) at New Jersey Devils (-125); total 5.0 – view these lines
[sc:NHL240 ]New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist conceded an uncharacteristically large number of goals in losses to the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Islanders early this season. However, he can put that behind him after taking his first shutout of the season against the San Jose Sharks.
Meanwhile, Martin St. Louis, Rick Nash, Carl Hagelin and Kevin Hayes each had goals in the team’s best offensive show this season. They should be ready to challenge the Devils’ goaltender Croy Schneider, who allowed 10 goals over the past two games.
Writer’s Prediction
The New York Rangers are heating up. Take them at +105 to beat the Devils.
San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals (8:07 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (-107) at Kansas City Royals (-103); total 6.5 – view these lines
James Shields will be very well rested when he takes the mound Tuesday to open the 2014 World Series. He has been shaky in the postseason with a 5.63 ERA in three starts, albeit all wins, this year. Still, Big Game James’ lone shutout during the regular season was a four-hitter against the Giants on August 9. And who knows? Stats might just not matter to this team: the Royals are a perfect 8-0 in this year’s postseason.
The Giants answer with their own ace in Madison Bumgarner, who’s 2-1 with a 1.42 ERA in four playoff starts this year. Bumgarner surrendered three earned runs on seven hits with a home run in a 4-1 loss to the Royals on August 8. The Giants are 0-5 in their last five games against the Royals.
