Boston Celtics at Washington Wizards (8:00 PM ET)
Line: Boston Celtics (+5.5) vs. Washington Wizards (-5.5); total: 218.5 – view all NBA lines
Isaiah Thomas put up 33 points in the opener and then followed it up with 53 points—his playoff career-high—in Game 2 to put the Celtics in full control of this series. Yes, he’s done extremely well in leading his group offensively, but the Boston defense has flat-out failed to contain Washington’s own attack, which is tallying 115.0 points thus far in the two previous games. The C’s will have to lower that amount because their offense, or Thomas alone, won’t always be enough to save them.
John Wall and Bradley Beal are averaging 29.6 and 24.5 points, respectively, for the Wizards this postseason.
Writer’s Prediction
Washington (-5.5) wins and barely covers.
Utah Jazz vs. Golden State Warriors (10:30 PM ET)
Line: Utah Jazz (+12.5) vs. Golden State Warriors (-12.5); total: 204.0 – view all NBA lines
Gordon Hayward’s disappearance was one of many things that contributed to Utah’s ugly offensive performance, and inevitable loss, in Game 1 against Golden State. The Butler product came up with only 12 points, while Rudy Gobert led all Jazz players with 13 markers. On a positive note, their defense did fairly well, forcing the Dubs to shoot 24.1% from three and to 106 points—their lowest of the playoffs thus far. Game 2 should be a far more interesting if Hayward and co. can find their scoring touch.
Writer’s Prediction
Golden State (-12.5) wins, but does not cover.
