New York Yankees vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees (-200) at New York Mets (+170); total 7.5 – view all MLB lines
The finale of the 2017 Subway Series commences this evening with the Yankees on the verge of a four-game sweep against the Mets. The Bronx Bombers will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have Luis Severino on the mound tonight. The Yankees have won six of their last seven games with Severino as their starter. Severino will look to bounce back from his atrocious showing last Saturday wherein he surrendered 10 runs (eight earned) over 4.1 frames to the Boston Red Sox. Opposing him this evening is Steven Matz. The Mets hope they will get a better version of the lefty tonight. Matz is 0-5 with a 9.51 ERA in his last seven starts.
Writer’s Prediction
The Yankees (-200) complete the series sweep with a 5-2 win.
Washington Nationals vs. San Diego Padres (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Washington Nationals (+105) at San Diego Padres (-115); total 8.5 – view all MLB lines
The San Diego Padres will head to their showdown with Washington with momentum on their side after sweeping their three-game set against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Clayton Richard pitched a three-hit shutout for the Padres who won for the fourth time in their last six games. They will now turn the ball over to Jhoulys Chacin who has posted a 2.82 ERA since the month of June. The Nationals, on the other hand, will have Edwin Jackson as their starter tonight. The 33-year-old veteran has filled in quite nicely for Washington after injuries to Joe Ross and Stephen Strasburg, going 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA in five starts.
Writer’s Prediction
The Padres (-115) extend their winning streak to four games with a 6-3 victory.
