Kei Nishikori vs. Andy Murray (1:30 PM ET)
Line: Kei Nishikori (+450) vs. Andy Murray (-700) – view all US Open Men’s Singles lines here
There’s no question that Andy Murray holds the upper hand in this matchup. He’s beaten Kei Nishikori in six of their seven head-to-head matches, the last four having gone to towards the Scotsman’s favor. And also, Murray, this year’s Wimbledon champion and the gold-medal winner in the 2016 Rio Olympics, has looked way better than the Japanese throughout the US Open, having lost only one set up to this point of the event.
Nishikori, meanwhile, has been relatively vulnerable, dropping a set in each of the first three rounds. But it’s worth noting that he managed to bring home an entertaining straight-sets win over Ivo Karlovic in the fourth round, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4). Nishikori’s definitely going to need that momentum in his showdown with Murray later.
Writer’s Prediction
Murray (-700) wins it after three sets.
Serena Williams vs. Simona Halep (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Serena Williams (-400) vs. Simona Halep (+300) – view all US Open Women’s Singles lines here
Serena Williams continues to remind the planet why she still ranks No. 1 in women’s tennis. Her performance in the US Open has been flat-out mesmerizing, as the American has yet to lose a set and recently won her 308th major tournament match at the expense of Yaroslava Shvedova, allowing Williams to surpass Roger Federer for the No. 1 spot in the all-time Grand Slam match wins list.
On the other side, Simona Halep deserves some credit for her efforts in reaching this stage of the US Open. She’s been forced to concede just a single set thus far, and is fresh off a relatively sound win over Carla Suarez Navarro in the fourth round, 6-2, 7-5. Williams, however, poses as an almost-unbeatable threat to the Romanian, who has only defeated Serena once across eight career matchups.
Writer’s Prediction
Serena (-400) stays hot, beating Halep in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
