Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (7:30 PM ET)
Lines: Toronto Maple Leafs (+105) at Tampa Bay Lightning (-125); total: 5.5 – View all NHL odds here
We’ve got two of the three teams currently vying for the final playoff spot in the East going head-to-head this Thursday night as the Maple Leafs pay a visit to the Lightning in Tampa Bay.
The Lightning – with a four-game win streak in tow over some true Stanley Cup contenders like the Wild, Rangers and Senators – are peaking at the right time for their annual postseason push. They’ll now look to extend that streak against Toronto, whom they’ve beaten in seven of their last nine meetings held at Amalie Arena.
The upcoming match in Florida could not have come at a worse time for the Leafs. They snapped their own three-game winning streak this Tuesday with a baffling 7-2 loss to the underachieving Panthers. At least the team won’t have to travel that far to try and get back on the winning path, as it’ll remain in the Sunshine State this Thursday to wrap up a brief three-game road swing.
Writer’s Prediction: Tampa Bay (-125) prevails with a key 3-1 victory.
Boston Bruins vs. Edmonton Oilers (9:00 PM ET)
Lines: Boston Bruins (-115) at Edmonton Oilers (-105); total: 5.5 – View all NHL odds here
Both the Bruins and the Oilers are hanging onto their precarious playoff spots from their respective conferences. Edmonton gladly saw its three-game losing streak end in emphatic fashion with a 7-1 win over Dallas on Tuesday, but it may be in for a let down against surging Boston.
Although the Bruins will play the second of a back-to-back in Alberta this Thursday, they don’t seem fazed at all by their current four-game road trip in Canada. In fact, they’ve won four-straight contests after beating the Flames on Wednesday. Boston’s offense has been clicking fantastically during this stretch, as the team has scored five or more goals in three of the four games.
Writer’s Prediction: Boston (-115) stays hot with a 4-2 win and stands pat as the seventh seed in the East’s playoff picture.
St. Louis Blues vs. San Jose Sharks (10:30 PM ET)
Lines: St. Louis Blues (+160) at San Jose Sharks (-190); total: 5.0 –View all NHL odds here
Just when the Blues were riding a five-game winning streak, they take another step back with a 2-1 loss in Anaheim this Wednesday. Like Boston, St. Louis will play its second game is as many nights when they dive into the Shark Tank this Thursday, and the team needs superstar Vladimir Tarasenko (13 goals in his last 21 starts) to keep the points pouring in if they wish to remain locked into the final playoff spot in the West.
However, that’ll be easier said than done against goalie Martin Jones and Pacific-leading San Jose’s tight defense. The Sharks have surrendered just a single goal to the opposition in eight of their last 10 victories, and they’ve won five of their last six home games as well.
Writer’s Prediction: The Sharks (-190) shutout the Blues, 3-0, to stay in the running with Chicago and Minnesota for home-ice advantage throughout the Western Conference playoffs.
