Betting on the Boston Celtics (odds)
Regular Season Record: 29-26
The Celtics are on a roll. They have won their fourth game in a row after beating the Portland Trail Blazers on the road last Tuesday, 116-115. Jayson Tatum continues to sizzle, as he scored 32 points on 10-17 shooting, while Jaylen Brown added 24 points. The Celtics lost to Los Angeles at home last January, 96-95, as they got dominated by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But guess what. Those two will not be on the court when the Celtics meet the Lakers again this Thursday. Without James and Davis, the Celtics almost have a bonus going into the game. Plus, Tatum and Brown are playing well lately. Tatum has averaged 34.5 points on 52.3 percent shooting from the field in the last four games, while Brown has put up 25.5 points on 49.4 percent shooting over that same stretch.
The Celtics are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 34-21
The Lakers are getting by without James and Davis, but they have also been wildly inconsistent of late. The Lakers have not won back-to-back games this month, going 3-3 straight up since the start of April. In their last game, the Lakers defeated the Charlotte Hornets on the road, 101-93. Kyle Kuzma delivered for the Lakers against the Hornets, as he scored 24 points. Dennis Schroder stabilized the Lakers with 19 points to go with six assists. The Lakers, however, got just 4 points from big man Andre Drummond in another lackluster performance. Drummond has only scored 7 points in his last two games, though he pulled down 22 rebounds in that span. His rebounding will be more important than his scoring against the Celtics, which is just 17th in the league in defensive rebound percentage. The Lakers, on the other hand, are ninth in that department.
The Lakers are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Celtics win, 110-105.
