Betting on the Boston Red Sox (-140)

The Boston Red Sox stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a 5-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Andrew Benintendi hit a three-run homer for the Red Sox who pulled five games ahead of the Blue Jays and six in front of the Orioles with 10 games remaining this season. The Red Sox will look to complete the series sweep when they take on the Orioles in the final game of their four-game set tonight.

Starting for Boston in this series finale is David Price (16-8, 3.91 ERA). He allowed five runs over six innings with seven strikeouts in a no-decision Saturday against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox still won that game, 6-5. The Red Sox have now won each of their last eight games with Price as their starter. He will fancy his chances of extending that excellent form tonight as he has fared extremely well against the Orioles on the road of late. Price pitched a rain-shortened complete game at Camden Yards last month, surrendering just one run and no walks over six innings.

Price can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the Red Sox offense to pick up the scoring slack against the Orioles. They have scored a total of 15 runs in this series thus far. Expected to lead the Boston attack tonight is the sizzling Hanley Ramirez. The first baseman is 11-of-26 over his last seven games with four homers and 10 RBIs. He has also drawn three walks during this span. Ramirez is hitless, though, in six career at-bats against Baltimore starter Chris Tillman.

The Red Sox are 7-1 in their last eight road games. They are pegged at +600 to win the World Series this year.

Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (+130)

Pitching for Baltimore in this critical clash tonight is Chris Tillman (16-6, 3.72 ERA). He allowed three runs on four hits and one walk over 5.2 innings in a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Tillman hasn’t showed any signs of the right shoulder bursitis that landed him on the disabled list back in August, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.09 ERA over his last two starts. He is 8-3 with a 4.37 ERA in 15 starts at Oriole Park this season.

That being said, the Orioles will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Red Sox in the series finale. The Orioles will rely on the red-hot J.J. Hardy to carry them through tonight. He is batting .375 (9-of-24) over his last eight games with five RBIs. Hardy is 12-of-45 in his career against Boston starter David Price. Another player who’s expected to contribute this evening is Chris Davis. He is 9-of-31 lifetime against Price with two homers and five RBIs.

The Orioles are 1-4 in their last five home games. They are pegged at +750 to win the American League pennant this year.

Writer’s Prediction

The Orioles (+130) snap their three-game losing skid with a narrow 6-5 victory.
