Boston Red Sox vs Baltimore Orioles Predictions, Picks, Odds, and Betting Preview – Season Series June 14-16 2019

The Boston Red Sox (+800 to win the World Series) can’t be too happy with how their season is going. They are only third in the American League East, behind bitter rivals and division leaders New York Yankees and the rebuilding Tampa Bay Rays. They will look to pile on the misery of the division’s cellar-dwellers Baltimore Orioles, who are not going anywhere this season with odds of +200000 to win the AL East.

GAME 1

Starters: Eduardo Rodriguez (6-4, 5.00 ERA) vs. Andrew Cashner (6-2, 4.73 ERA)

Pitching:

Rodriguez struggled in his last outing, as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits, including two home runs, in 5.2 innings of a 6-1 home loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. He’ll face the Orioles for the first time this season at Camden Yards, where he is 4-1 with a 3.48 ERA in six starts there since 2016. Cashner remains as the scheduled starter for Baltimore despite getting taken out of the game after 87 pitches in his last start in which he allowed an earned run on four hits in a 4-1 loss on the road against the Houston Astros.

Hitting

Mookie Betts is 3-for-11 in career vs. Cashner.

Trey Mancini is 7-for-23 in career vs. Rodriguez.

Prediction: Red Sox win, 5-3.

GAME 2

Starters: Chris Sale (2-7, 3.52 ERA) vs. Dylan Bundy (3-7, 4.50 ERA)

Pitching:

Sale was fantastic in his last start, albeit in a 4-3 home loss to the Texas Rangers. Sale tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out 10 Rangers. He could get back in the win column against Baltimore, which he dominated back in May at Camden Yards in a game that saw him strike out 14 hitters and allowed just an earned run on three hits while going 8.0 innings deep. Sale is 2-5 with a 3.49 ERA in eight road starts this season. Bundy has not allowed more than three earned runs in eight straight starts, in each he went no shorter than 5.0 innings.

Hitting

Andrew Benintendi is 9-for-27 in career vs. Bundy.

Trey Mancini is 8-for-22 in career vs. Sale.

Prediction: Red Sox win, 4-2.

GAME 3

Starters: Darwinzon Hernandez (Career: 2.1 IP, 4 S0, 0-0 W/L, 0.00 ERA) vs. John Means (5-4, 2.67 ERA)

Pitching:

Hernandez, a lefty, has been called up by the Red Sox from the minors and will be making just his second career appearance in the major league this coming Sunday — his first career start. He pitched 2.1 innings long and allowed four hits and a ball in a 4-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers at home last April. Despite getting no-decisions in both of his last two starts, Means, also a lefty, can be happy with his performance in those games, as he allowed just two earned runs on seven hits across 12.0 innings across that span.

Hitting

J.D. Martinez is hitting .365 against lefties this season, as of this writing.

Hanser Alberto is batting .425 against lefties this season, as of this writing.

Prediction: Orioles win, 6-3.

Writer’s Overall Series Prediction

Red Sox take two of three games.
