Betting on the Boston Red Sox (-105)
Drew Pomeranz‘s search for his first career win in a Red Sox uniform continues later tonight at Progressive Field, as he takes on the team that drafted him back in 2010 June Draft. In five starts since being acquired by Boston, Pomeranz has accumulated a 0-2 record and a 5.26 ERA.Pomeranz (8-9, 3.03 ERA) has pitched much better over his last two outings, however, allowing just three earned runs in 11.1 total innings during that span.
Regardless of how Pomeranz will pitch tonight, there is lots of expectations on the Red Sox’s offense that has been on fire of late. Boston is coming off a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks, outscoring Arizona in the series, 31-9.
Mookie Betts personifies best Boston’s offensive explosion lately having hit three homers in the Red Sox’s 16-2 demolition job of Arizona on Sunday. Moreover, Betts is 8-for-22 with 10 RBIs over his last five games.
Betting on the Cleveland Indians (-105)
Josh Tomlin (11-5, 4.18 ERA) has some bitter taste to rinse off his mouth when he takes the mound against Boston.
Tomlin was rocked hard in a previous start, giving up seven earned runs on eight hits in just four innings of action in a 7-4 road loss to Washington on August 10—the second-straight start in which he’s allowed seven runs. Now back at Progressive Field, Tomlin will look to improve his 5-2 record and lower his 4.33 ERA in nine starts at home thus far this season.
Tomlin scored a win in his recent start in Cleveland, allowing just two earned runs on six hits across seven innings of a 6-3 triumph over Oakland on July 30. Cleveland is 8-2 in Tomlin’s last 10 home starts.
Behind Tomlin is Cleveland’s offense that has been hitting well opposite lefty pitchers. The Indians hope to get to Boston southpaw Pomeranz in tonight’s showdown, as they are currently second in the majors with a .277 batting average against lefties.
Jose Ramirez is 35-for-106 with three round-trippers, eight doubles, and 13 RBI against lefty pitchers this season.
Writer’s Prediction
