Pitching Edge – Los Angeles Angels (+155)
David Price (9-7, 4.51 ERA) has given up a total of 22 hits and 16 earned runs in two starts since coming out of the All-Star break, so it’s only logical that the pitching edge go to the Angels, who are handing the ball to Jered Weaver (8-8, 5.32 ERA) in tonight’s series opener against the Red Sox.Weaver only worked for four innings in his last start on Saturday at Houston, but he was playing superbly prior to that outing. The veteran righty managed to yield just one run in each of his previous two starts, which both resulted to a win. Weaver also performed relatively well in his last start against Boston, logging in 5 1/3 innings of three-run ball to help the Halos squeak out the 4-3 victory. That happened way back in August of 2014, however.
Batting Edge – Boston Red Sox (-175)
If David Price continues to struggle tonight, then it’s up to Boston’s big bats to come to the rescue as always. The Red Sox have the best offense in baseball today and the duo of Xander Bogaerts and David Ortiz could definitely attest to that.
Bogaerts currently leads the team in batting (.331) and hits (135), while the soon-to-retire Ortiz has done the same in the other departments: 25 home runs, 84 runs batted in and .413 OBP. He’s also gotten the better of the Angels’ starter Jered Weaver, batting 12-of-37 lifetime with three homers, 10 RBIs and two doubles against the righty.
Writer’s Prediction: Boston (-175) wins it, 9-2.
