Betting on the Boston Red Sox
[sc:MLB240banner ]The Boston Red Sox bounced back from a disappointing series sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers by taking two out of three games against the Texas Rangers. David Ortiz knocked a three-run homer out in the eighth inning of the third game, propelling Boston to a 4-2 victory.
After losing a high-scoring 10-7 affair in the second game of that series, the Red Sox went under the line for the third time in four games, primarily because of great pitching and the quiet game from Mike Napoli. Jake Peavy pitched for 6.2 innings, giving up three hits and one earned run, while striking out eight batters.
Napoli went 0-3 at the plate with only one walk in the third game after going 6-10 in the first two games versus Texas. Napoli could return to his fine form against the Yankees as he averaged .316 (24-76) from 2011-2013 versus the Bronx Bombers.
Clay Buchholz attempts to get his first win of the season at Yankee Stadium. The Red Sox have won in all of his last three starts against their fierce rivals.
Betting on the New York Yankees
Carlos Beltran had his best game in Yankee pinstripes but his efforts weren’t enough to stop the Baltimore Orioles from taking the series. Reliever Shawn Kelley gave up two earned runs in the ninth inning, which cost New York a 5-4 loss. It was the Yankees’ second loss in a row after losing to the Orioles 14-5 in the second game.
Beltran was a triple away from hitting for the cycle last night. He went 3-3 from behind the plate, including a home run in the second inning. Meanwhile, third baseman Yangervis Solarte extended his hitting to seven games with a single to left field in the fifth inning.
Solarte is the Yankees’ surprise player thus far. The little known Venezuelan is leading his team with a batting average of.429. He is also currently tied for no. 1 in the majors with six doubles.
Michael Pineda finally gets his first start at Yankee Stadium since being acquired by the Yankees in 2012. Pineda had a sterling outing – albeit in a loss—in his season debut against Toronto April 5. The righty gave up five hits and struck out five in six innings.
Boston has had troubles against righty starters early this season. The Red Sox have won just four of six games against right-handed starters and are 1-3 in the last four.
Writer’s Prediction
Clay Buchholz has had lots of success at Yankee Stadium before. With Yankees having trouble with their hitting, I expect the Red Sox to one-up the Yankees in their regular season series after tonight’s ballgame. Who are you going to bet on?
