Betting on the Brooklyn Nets (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 38-34
After falling prey to Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, the Nets have managed to stitch together two wins in a row. They beat the Portland Trail Blazers in the first game since the loss to Dallas, 128-123, before taking down the Utah Jazz, 114-106, last Monday to finish a three-game homestand with two wins. With its upcoming game against Memphis being on the road, Brooklyn will have Kyrie Irving back on the floor to help the Nets try to extend their win streak to three games. The last time Irving saw action, he dropped 60 points in a 150-108 road win over the Orlando Magic on Mar. 15. Irving’s presence for this Memphis game is good news for the Nets’ offense that is producing 112.1 points per game and is fourth in the league with a 47.4 field goal shooting percentage. Memphis guards should be busier than usual on defense with Irving around, and that could take away from their normal offensive load, which isn’t ideal for Memphis’ offense that is already missing Ja Morant.
Brooklyn is 7-1-1 against the spread in its last nine road games.
Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 49-23
The Grizzlies are coming off a 122-98 win on the road over the Houston Rockets last Sunday to successfully recover from a Friday 120-105 loss in Atlanta. Memphis is now 5-1 straight up in its last six games overall. The Grizzlies, who have not lost back to back so far this month of March, will be rolling out anew without Morant. The guard out of Murray State is dealing with a right knee issue that held him back from playing against Houston. Without Morant, the Grizzlies will turn to the likes of Desmond Bane, Dillon Brooks, and Jaren Jackson Jr. to carry most of the load for the team. Bane is second on the team with 17.9 points per game, while Brooks and Jackson are behind him with 17.7 and 16.4 points per game, respectively. When Memphis defeated the Nets on the road in January, 118-104, Bane scored 29 points on 12/23 shooting, while Brandon Clarke came off the bench and fired 16 points.
Memphis is 4-0 against the spread in its last four games at home versus a team with a winning road record.
Writer’s Prediction
The Nets win 120-118.
