Betting on the Buffalo Bills (PK)
Wins over Arizona and New England have every Buffalo Bills fan smiling right now. The Bills seem to have finally found some consistency on both sides of the field after being surrounded with a lot of criticism for their 0-2 start this season.
The win over the Tom Brady-less Pats yesterday was obviously the most impressive one for the Bills, who are now 2-2 on the year. They didn’t just beat their division rivals, but they also shut them out, 16-0, at their own turf for the first time since 1993. And the one leading the charge of this dominant effort was Tyrod Taylor.
Yes, Taylor was finally locked-in from start to finish, accounting for 246 passing yards, a touchdown and zero interceptions. He also efficiently directed a unit that was 7-of-15 on third downs. Buffalo was just 10-of-36 combined in the first three weeks in that department.
Buffalo’s defense also managed to build on its efforts in the win versus Arizona, sacking rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett three times. You can expect Case Keenum to receive that same kind of treatment, when the Bills take on the Rams at the Memorial Stadium this weekend.
Offensively, head coach Rex Ryan might decide to execute more passing plays here. Los Angeles, after all, is among the worst in the league in stopping the pass, averaging 275.0 yards allowed per contest. That being said, the pair of Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin will continue sharing the challenge of being Taylor’s top target as long as Sammy Watkins remains sidelined.
Meanwhile, LeSean McCoy can do some damage on the ground for the Bills. He did just that against the Pats, leading all running backs in carries (19) and yards rushing (70). McCoy also showcased his pass-catching skills in that game, adding in six catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Buffalo is 4-6 SU (4-5-1 ATS) in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (PK)
The Los Angeles Rams deserve more than just our attention. They’re 3-1 right now, good for first place in the NFC West, having beaten the Seahawks, Bucs and Cardinals in the previous three weeks.
Both the offense and defense have gradually improved, especially during the 17-13 win over Arizona yesterday. Case Keenum completed 18 of his 30 passes for 266 yards with two touchdowns and zero picks, while the team managed to force a Carson Palmer-led offense to five turnovers.
Sustaining that kind of effort should continue to deliver positive results for the Rams, who’ve gotten three wins in their first four games of the season for the first time in 16 years. Up next on their schedule is a matchup with a Bills’ squad that’s coming off a confidence-boosting win over the Pats.
The biggest key to victory for the Rams, though, is arguably the production of Todd Gurley. He was held to just 33 yards on the ground versus the Cardinals, but compensated for it by contributing 49 yards on five receptions. Getting Gurley more involved in the passing game could be what LA needs to come up with its fourth-straight victory this weekend.
Los Angeles is 6-4 SU and ATS in its last 10 home games.
