Betting on the Carolina Panthers (1-1)

The Panthers got their first loss of the preseason last week, as they fell prey to the Buffalo Bills at home, 27-14. Kyle Allen started anew for the Panthers in that game and found little success, as he went just 4 of 11 for 32 passing yards. It was Taylor Heinicke who did the best job among all three Panthers quarterbacks who saw action. Heinicke had 78 passing yards on 8-for-12 completions to go with a touchdown. Rookie Will Grier went 10 of 19 for 75 yards. He had an interception that was returned for a touchdown. With Allen continuing to struggle in the preseason and Grier not doing himself any favors, there could be a reason to expect for Heinicke to get the nod to start against the Patriots.

The Panthers, who are averaging just 164.0 total yards per game in the preseason, are 6-3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 10 preseason contests away from Carolina.

Betting on the New England Patriots (2-0)

The Patriots just keep on winning. The defending Super Bowl champions kept their preseason record unblemished following a 22-17 road win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 2. With Tom Brady not playing, the Patriots leaned on the poise and control of rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham to lead them to comeback victory after being down 17-8 at the half. Stidham went 14 of 19 for 193 passing yards and a touchdown. He also had three rushes for 18 yards. Stidham can continue polish on his game against the Panthers’ defense that allowed 279 passing yards to the Bills. Another interesting area to watch out for the Pats is their passing game, with Josh Gordon being reinstated. Check on his status before the Panthers game to see if he’ll suit up and play this Thursday.

The Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last six preseason games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Patriots win, 27-13.
