Betting on Chelsea (+187)
Chelsea got their preseason campaign off to a solid start after they walloped Arsenal 3-0 in a friendly. Michy Batshuayi bagged a brace to lead the Blues to the easy victory.
After getting very few opportunities to play in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, Batshuayi looks primed to stake his claim as the team’s first-choice striker with the departure of Diego Costa.
However, he’ll have some stiff competition from new signing Alvaro Morata, who should be set for his Chelsea debut against Bayern. Morata will likely take the place of fellow Spaniard Pedro, who unfortunately suffered multiple face fractures against Arsenal.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte fielded close to a full-strength squad against Arsenal and gave them a good amount of playing time before putting in the youngsters. There’s a good chance he does the same against Bayern in their International Champions Cup opener.
Betting on Bayern Munich (+118)
Bayern Munich has had a rough International Champions Cup campaign thus far. After losing their opener to Arsenal on penalties, they were absolutely trucked 4-0 by Milan in their following matchup. Granted, manager Carlo Ancelotti has been missing a couple of key players, notably goalie Manuel Neuer, midfielder Arturo Vidal, and winger Arjen Robben.
Granted, manager Carlo Ancelotti has been without a couple of key players early in preseason, notably goalie Manuel Neuer, midfielder Arturo Vidal, and winger Arjen Robben.
But despite a rocky first couple of games, you’d better believe this Bayern side will get things going eventually this preseason, and they have more than enough quality to trouble even a full-strength Chelsea team.
Bayern has been relatively quiet during the summer, although loan signing James Rodriguez did make his debut against Milan. Look for him to get some extended playing time and try to make his case for a starting spot in a stacked Bayern team.
