Betting on Chelsea (+117)

Chelsea stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Swansea on Sunday. It was a gritty performance by the Blues who dropped points for the first time this season. They are now two points behind Manchester City who remained perfect under new manager Pep Guardiola.

Providing the impetus for Chelsea’s sizzling start is the red-hot Diego Costa. He has already scored four times for the Blues this campaign. His equalizer against Swansea was a thing of beauty, with the Spaniard thumping an acrobatic bicycle kick past the helpless Lukasz Fabianski.

With his latest double for Chelsea, Costa now has scored more goals (7) against Swansea than against any other side in the Premier League. Costa now has scored a whopping 35 goals in 58 Premier League matches. Only five players have reached that goal-scoring mark in the English top flight in fewer appearances than Costa.

They will fancy their chances of extending that excellent run against Liverpool this coming Friday as they have fared extremely well at home this season. The Blues are one of two remaining Premier League sides that are still perfect at home this campaign. They have grabbed a maximum six points in their two home games thus far this season.

For the Blues to maintain their perfect home record against Liverpool, they will need to bring the same commitment in attack that they showed against Swansea last Sunday. The Blues dominated possession in that match, controlling 55 percent of the ball against the Swans. That enabled Chelsea to launch an incredible 28 shots against Swansea, seven of which were on target.

The Blues are pegged at -138 to score first in this match.

Betting on Liverpool (+185)

Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to two matches with a straightforward 4-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday. It was a pivotal result for the Reds who remained five points adrift of leaders Manchester City in the EPL title race. Jurgen Klopp’s men can slice that deficit even further when they face the Blues in a marquee top-of-the-table clash this coming Friday. Liverpool will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well against Chelsea of late. The Reds destroyed the Blues, 3-1, in the corresponding fixture last season.

For the Reds to replicate that feat this coming Friday, they will need to continue their excellent play on the offensive end. Liverpool have scored more Premier League goals than any other team in 2016 (50). Expected to lead the Reds’ attack against Chelsea is Sadio Mane. He has scored eight goals in his past eight Premier League appearances. Mane scored Liverpool’s second goal in the win against the defending league champions. Mane will need to be at his best, though, against a Chelsea defense that has conceded just a single goal at home this season, the fewest in the entire Premier League this campaign.

The Reds are pegged at +120 to score first in this match.
