Betting on the Chicago White Sox (+150)

Chicago’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the White Sox suffered a gut-wrenching 4-3 defeat to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday. The White Sox had no answer for Corey Kluber who allowed just two runs over 7.1 masterful innings. It was the third consecutive loss for the three-time world champions whose lead atop the AL Central has now shrunk to just a half-game.

With the White Sox struggling mightily right now, the pressure is on Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.57 ERA) to deliver a great start for Chicago tonight. The right-hander recorded eight strikeouts while also surrendering six hits and two earned runs over six innings in Saturday’s 2-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He didn’t issue a single free pass after allowing 10 walks over his first three starts. Gonzalez now has an 0-6 record in 12 starts since his last victory on July 25 with the Baltimore Orioles.

With Gonzalez still a big question mark at this point, the onus is on the White Sox hitters to provide some much-needed offense tonight against the Royals. They have scored a total of just six runs over their last three games. Expected to lead the Chicago lineup tonight is Jose Abreu. He went 3-of-4 in the series finale against the Indians. Abreu is 7-of-19 (.368) in his career against Kansas City starter Danny Duffy with one homer and two RBIs.

The White Sox are 4-6 in their last 10 road games. They are pegged at +1,000 to win the World Series this year.

Betting on the Kansas City Royals (-170)

The Kansas City Royals had their two-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a 7-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Miguel Sano hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning to help the Twins stave off another series sweep. With the defeat, the Royals dropped back to 24-22 in the AL Central standings.

The Royals will look to return to winning ways when they lock horns with the White Sox in the opening game of their four-game set tonight. Starting for Kansas City this evening is Danny Duffy (0-0, 2.13 ERA). His pitch limit will likely be bumped to around 75-80 throws in his third start since coming out of the pen. Duffy did not allow a single run in his two previous shortened starts against the Braves and the White Sox.

He can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the Royals’ offense to pick up the scoring slack as well. Expected to lead the Kansas City lineup tonight is Lorenzo Cain. The center fielder is 12-of-32 in his last seven games with one homer and seven RBIs. He is batting .500 (3-of-6) in his career against Chicago starter Miguel Gonzalez with a homer and one RBI.

The Royals are 6-4 in their last 10 home games. They are priced at +1,200 to win the American League pennant this year.
