Betting on Chile (-335)
Chile and Panama are tied with three points apiece but with the former owning the advantage in goal differential, all Chile have to do is net a point tonight to claim the remaining Group D ticket to the quarterfinals.La Roja opened their 2016 Copa America campaign with a thud, losing to Argentina, 2-1. They did bounce back, however, with a 2-1 victory over Bolivia. Still, Chile haven’t looked like the defending champions of the tournament due mostly to their inconsistent play. While they outshot Bolivia 19-3, Chile needed a controversial penalty kick in injury time to break a 1-1 tie and win the contest.
Nevertheless, it must feel great for Chile to see Arturo Vidal net both goals, as his performance could serve as a sign of what to expect against Panama. But the player La Roja would most like to finally find the back of the net is Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez has six shots on goal thus far in the tournament so he’s ripe to get one later tonight.
Betting on Panama (+635)
After getting their soul crushed with a 5-0 decimation at the hands of powerhouse Argentina on Saturday, Panama need a miracle of biblical proportions to advance to the quarterfinals. Well, at least they’re still technically alive in the tournament.
There’s no sugarcoating Panama’s situation. They’re in an absolute perfect position to throw in the proverbial white towel given the seemingly improbable task. They’re not going to do that of course so a expect a fight from Panama. Hopefully for the team’s bettors, Los Canaleros would be able to muster enough strength to at least cover the spread (-1, -1.5).
Panama, though, will be without starting midfielder Anibal Godoy, who received a red card against Argentina after two bookable offenses. He’s a crucial figure in the Panama attack, and will be missed. Felipe Baloy, meanwhile, will be a capable deterrent for Chile attackers with his physicality and for just him being a sheer pest in the midfield.
