The Cincinnati Bearcats claw their way into Fertitta Center in Houston Texas this Sunday in an American Athletic Conference contest against the Cougars. Each team boasts a 9-1 conference record, although the home team here has a slighter better overall standing. Houston (22-1) and Cincinnati (20-3) are both coming off of Thursday night wins and will be looking to take that momentum into the weekend. College basketball futures currently give the Bearcats +10000 odds to win the National Championship while the Cougars fare a bit better with a price of +8000 to close out the season as the champ. Betting on the Cincinnati Bearcats (20-3 Overall / 9-1 Conference)
For a second straight game on the road, Cincinnati overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to score an important conference win, when they defeated Memphis at FedExForum 69-64 this passed Thursday night.
Senior guard Justin Jenifer put up 14 points for the Bearcats, while junior Jarron Cumberland prevailed after a slow first half to finish the game with a team-high 17 points. Forward Trevon Scott added 13-points for his team, while collectively the squad out-rebounded their opponent 38-32. Cincinnati went 11-for 29 on 3-pointers, with eight of those trés coming in the first half, which shows that it was defense that got them into trouble entering the final 20-minutes of the game. But once that defense was locked in around the 7-minute (remaining) mark the Bearcats went on a 10-0 tear and proceeded to convert on free throws and big shots towards victory. While these second half comebacks are fun to watch, admirable even, they can’t play that game against the only other ranked AAC team this Sunday. The Cougars defense won’t give them that kind of leeway in the final minutes.
Cincinnati is currently 11-8 against the spread (ATS) after a win. On the road so far this season, they’re 6-2 straight up (SU) and 3-4 ATS.
Betting on the Houston Cougars (22-1 Overall / 9-1 Conference)
After taking down the UCF Knights 77-68 at CFE Arena on Thursday the No. 12 Houston Cougars now have seven consecutive wins under their belt. Once again, Corey Davis Jr. proved unstoppable at both ends of the court, and dropped 26 points on 8-for-13 shooting while guard Armoni Brooks added 14 points and Galen Robinson Jr. put 12 points along with seven assists. It wasn’t all a cake walk mind you, as right after Houston took a 12-4 lead they allowed UCF to get back into the game with a 13-5 run to tie things up, but after convening in a timeout the Cougars returned to go on a 10-0 run against the Knights for over six-minutes which ultimately put the game out of reach.
While their opponent this weekend (Cincinnati) managed to scrape their way out of a hole to win their last two, Corey Davis Jr. and the Houston Cougars are on a confident roll which will be a difference maker on Sunday.
At home so far this season, the Cougars are 17-0 SU and 9-6-1 ATS.
Writer’s Prediction:
Houston keeps it’s winning streak alive, confidently beating the Cincinnati Bearcats 82-72.
