Betting Preview for the Miami Hurricanes vs Houston Cougars NCAA College Basketball Game on March 24 2023

TV Broadcast: CBS

Betting on the Miami Hurricanes (+7.0)

Record: 27-7 Overall/15-5 Conference

Miami sent the Indiana Hoosiers packing with a masterful 85-69 victory in the second round. Before that, the Hurricanes prevented getting upset in the first round by pulling off a 63-56 victory over the Drake Bulldogs. If anything, that testy game against Drake had Miami shaking off the rusts right out of the gate of the NCAA tournament and reminded the Hurricanes that nothing is going to be handed to them in the Big Dance. Miami is averaging 79.1 points per game this season and also has an average scoring margin of +7.5. The Hurricanes’ offense will put Houston’s defense to a real test, and it could end up being more than what the Cougars could handle, especially after Miami just went 9/23 from deep in the second round.

Miami is 8-1 against the spread in its last nine Friday games.

Betting on the Houston Cougars (-7.0)

Record: 33-3 Overall/17-1 Conference

Houston’s best player is healthy, and that’s a comforting thought for the Cougars, who got 22 points from Marcus Sasser in the team’s 81-64 win in the second round against the Auburn Tigers. Sasser picked aggravated an injury in the first round against Northern Kentucky but looked fine against Auburn. Sasser paces Houston with 16.9 points per game and also owns a high 60.1 TS%. The Cougars should be able to have their way on offense versus Miami, which is only 108th in the nation with a 101.7 AdjD. Houston, on the flip side, is fourth overall with just 89.3 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted and also carries an offense that is producing 118.5 points per 100 possessions adjusted – ninth nationally.

Houston is 11-5 against the spread in its last 16 neutral location games.

Writer’s Prediction

Houston wins, 77-69.
