Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 6-9
The Browns are out of playoff contention after losing to the New Orleans Saints at home in Week 16 to the tune of a 17-10 score. But maybe, without the pressure anymore to catch the boat to the postseason, the Browns will start playing better. It happens in the NFL and that could be the case for Cleveland, which still has lots of talented offensive weapons to rattle Washington. Running back Nick Chubb is perhaps the most dangerous player on offense for Cleveland, as he has been a constant producer for the Browns, who are averaging 21.5 points per game and rank fifth in the NFL with 147.3 rushing yards per outing. He’s definitely a threat to Washington’s stop unit that just got lit up for over 150 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in Week 16.
The Browns are 3-2 against the spread in their last five games overall.
Betting on the Washington Commanders (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 7-7-1
Washington is now winless in three games. After a 20-20 draw with the New York Giants in Week 14 on the road, the Commanders lost to the same Giants team a week later at home, 20-12. Then Washington lost to the San Francisco 49ers on the road in Week 16, 37-20. The Browns are much more beatable than the teams the Commanders have lost to of late. Carson Wentz could get a start in Week 17 after Taylor Heinicke got benched in the loss to the Niners. Wentz looked solid in his appearance versus the stout San Francisco defense, passing for 123 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 12/16 completions.
The Commanders are 6-3-1 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Browns win, 26-23.
