Betting on the Cleveland Cavaliers (34-15)
It looks like the tide is finally turning for the defending NBA champions. Though Cleveland is only 8-7 since January 6, the Cavs have won two straight and four of their last five games. Cleveland’s latest victory came at the expense of the New York Knicks, with the Cavaliers hacking out a 111-104 victory. LeBron James starred for the Cavs in this contest, scoring 32 points and dishing out 10 assists. It was the King’s 23rd double-double of the season.
The Cavs will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the red-hot Washington Wizards. They will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well against the Wizards of late. The Cavs, who are now 12-10 on the road after beating New York, have won each of their last two games against the Wizards. Cleveland thrashed Washington, 105-94, in their first meeting this season.
There’s also great news on the injury front for head coach Tyronn Lue as Kyrie Irving is set to return for Monday’s ballgame. Irving has been a vital cog in Cleveland’s success this season, averaging 24.2 points and 5.9 assists per game this campaign. Irving scored 29 points and dished out six dimes in Cleveland’s win over Washington earlier this season.
Betting on the Washington Wizards (30-20)
There’s just no stopping Washington right now. The Wizards extended their winning streak to seven games with a resounding 115-101 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. Six players scored in double-figures for the Wizards who moved to within 4.5 games of the Cleveland Cavaliers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Leading the way for the Wizards in this game was John Wall. He is truly playing like an MVP for Washington, recording a team-high 24 points and 13 assists against New Orleans. Wall has been superb for the Wizards, leading the team not only in scoring (23.0 PPG) but also in assists (10.4 APG) and steals (2.2 SPG) as well.
The Wizards will look to stretch their unbeaten run even further when they square off with the Cleveland Cavaliers this coming Monday. They will feel confident of their chances as they have fared extremely well at home of late. Washington is 17-0 at Verizon Center since December 6.
