Betting on the Cleveland Cavaliers (TBA)

Kevin Love perfectly summed up the Cavaliers’ first loss of the season against Atlanta on Tuesday night, saying that they just didn’t play good basketball.

The stat sheet proved it, as Cleveland shot just 37.4 percent as a team, including 26.2 percent from beyond the arc. The defense was just as poor, allowing the Hawks to shoot 50.6 percent from the field and rack up 110 points.

For tonight, though, expect the defending champions respond like champions. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Love, all of whom scored 20-plus points each versus Atlanta, are going to let off some steam against the Wizards, whom the Cavs have beaten in five of the last seven meetings (3-4 ATS).

Washington’s been clicking on offense lately, amassing 100-plus points in its last two contests. That stretch includes a season-high 118 points in last Wednesday’s home win over Boston. With that said, the Cavs defense will obviously need to deliver here, too.

Betting on the Washington Wizards (TBA)

With Bradley Beal’s status questionable for this game, another explosive outing from Otto Porter Jr. would be more than welcomed by the Wizards, who are 2-2 SU and ATS at home this season.

The 23-year-old wingman had a BIG night in the win over the Celtics on Wednesday, tallying a career-high 34 points together with 14 rebounds, four dimes, three steals and three blocks. He’ll really have to continue stepping up, especially against Cleveland—the league second-highest scoring team.

John Wall, meanwhile, needs to be the better version of himself. The former Kentucky standout shot 6 of 16 from the field for 19 points along with seven assists versus Boston. He also turned the ball over five times there, giving him a total of 11 in his last two games.

Over on defense, this is where the real battle happens for Washington. Stopping the superstar trio of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love might be too much to handle, but limiting at least one or two of them would enhance the Wizards’ chances of winning by a lot since Cleveland’s bench (27th in the league) hasn’t provided enough support this year.

Writer’s Prediction

Cavs win it, 109-100.
