Regular Season Record: 48-46
The Guardians started the second half of the season with back-to-back wins over the Chicago White Sox but have now lost their last two games, also against the team. Cleveland now turns to Zach Plesac to help them prevent a three-game skid, as the righty takes the mound this Tuesday versus the Red Sox. Plesac enters the game with a 2-7 record and a 4.02 ERA along with a 1.27 WHIP. In his last start, Plesac allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits in a 6-5 win against the Detroit Tigers at home on July 15. Jose Ramirez and Andres Gimenez lead the Guardians’ offense, as they are posting OPS digits of .932 and .853, respectively, while combining for 30 home runs and 123 RBIs. Steven Kwan is on quite a roll of late, as well, having hit .474 on 9-of-19 hitting in the last four games with a home run and 4 runs driven to the plate.
Betting on the Boston Red Sox (view odds)
Regular Season Record: 48-48
The Red Sox are coming off an 8-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, which caps a brutal series for Boston at home. In that series, Toronto scored a total of 40 runs to just 10 by the Red Sox, who are hoping Nick Pivetta would play a major role in stopping the team’s bleeding. Pivetta enters the game with an 8-7 record and a 4.50 ERA along with a 1.26 WHIP. Pivetta has been horrible of late, though, having allowed a total of 20 earned runs in his last three starts (13.1 innings). Boston will also not have Rafael Devers due to injury. Without their best hitter, the Red Sox will turn to the likes of Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story for run support. They are hitting .313 and .221, respectively while combining for 22 home runs and 107 RBIs.
Writer’s Prediction
The Guardians win, 7-4.
