Betting on the Dallas Stars
[sc:NHL240 ]Over their last six games, the Dallas Stars (89 points) are 3-3, which has decreased their lead over the Phoenix Coyotes (87 points) to two in the standings. Ranked 10th in goals per game, Dallas failed to score more than two goals in its last three losses, proving how much their game is predicated on offense.
This season, however, the Tyler Seguin-led club has done a great job containing Phoenix’ goal-making. In its two victories against the Coyotes, the Stars limited their opponents to just one score in each game. But to sweep Phoenix and get to the Playoffs, Seguin, who leads the team with 36 goals, will have to step up. After making at least one score in Dallas first four games in April, the 22-year-old has been shut down in his last two contests.
The last four contests between Dallas and Phoenix have gone under the totals.
Betting on the Phoenix Coyotes
It’s no secret Phoenix has been terrible as of late. Losers of six straight and just 2-8 SU in its last 10, the Coyotes have been unable to overtake the Stars in the conference standings.
Most of the blame falls on Antoine Vermette’s shoulders. Despite leading Phoenix with 24 goals this season, the former second-round pick hasn’t scored in seven games. That, among other reasons, explains why the last 10 Coyotes games have gone over the totals only thrice.
To stop the Stars, the home team must improve its defense. Phoenix is ranked 20th in goals allowed, giving up 2.8 per game. This is a disadvantage Dallas will surely look to exploit, given their scoring prowess. Moreover, the Coyotes have already given up five goals in two games vs. DAL this season.
Writer’s Prediction
In a game where a ticket to the Playoffs is on the line, it’s smarter to trust the team with more momentum. Thus, roll the dice with the Stars. Who are you going to bet on?
