Betting on the Detroit Pistons (18-22)
Just when you thought the Pistons had finally turned the corner, they go out and blow an 18-point fourth-quarter lead and suffer a stinging 100-94 defeat to the Sacramento Kings. That loss snapped the Pistons’ recent two-game win streak.
Despite the loss, one positive to take out of that game was the continued great play of Reggie Jackson. The Pistons point guard has been on fire since the New Year, averaging 23.8 points on 50 percent shooting with 6.6 assists in his last five games.
Andre Drummond was limited to just 9 points against the Kings, but he still contributed 12 rebounds and 7 blocks. Drummond has also been ballin’ in 2017, and is putting up 19.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2.8 blocks.
Drummond will look to replicate what Hassan Whiteside did to the Warriors, which was dominate them inside. The Heat big man burned the Dubs for 28 points and 20 rebounds to help Miami cover.
The Pistons gave Golden State a good fight in their first meeting this season in Detroit. Tobias Harris had 26 points off the bench while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had 25 as the Pistons lost 119-113, but covered as 7-point home underdogs.
Betting on the Golden State Warriors (33-6)
The Golden State Warriors have started to put that demoralizing loss to the Memphis Grizzlies behind them. The Dubs have won back-to-back games against the Sacramento Kings (117-106) and the Miami Heat (107-95) to improve to 33-6 on the season. However, they still failed to cover the closing spread on both games, and are now just 1-8 against the spread in their last nine games.
Stephen Curry is playing some of his best basketball of the season since the start of 2017. The two-time defending MVP is averaging 30.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 4.4 3-pointers in his first five games this month. Meanwhile, Kevin Durant has been consistently putting up 27 points and 7 rebounds.
Klay Thompson missed the Heat game due to rest, so he should be set to return against the Pistons. Thompson had been a bit off his game, failing to top 20 points in his last three games. He’s hit just four 3-pointers during that span.
The Warriors being back to full strength should only help their chances of continuing their very good record at home against the Pistons. Golden State is a perfect 6-0 (but 3-3 ATS) in its last six home games against Detroit.
Writer’s Prediction
Curry and the Warriors (-13) blow the Pistons out, 119-101.
