Edge won’t be re-retiring from the WWE to focus more on his role as Kjetill Flatnose on History channel’s Vikings quite yet. The icon has at least one more opportunity to improve his all-time WrestleMania record with a recently announced Last Man Standing match against former Rated-RKO tag team partner Randy Orton. The Goldberg vs Roman Reigns match may be touted as the main card for the first evening of the two-day event (followed the next night by the WWE Championship featuring Lesnar vs McIntyre) but the Edge vs Orton match is much more personal. For that reason it will be the most anticipated of the April 4th schedule. Will Edge ride off into the sunset with a feather in his golden-ish locks? Or will Randy Orton own the edge (pun intended) over the man he has long history with?

Edge is a WrestleMania machine, having won 5 of 9 when not paired in a tag team. But until this year He was officially retired after sustaining a career-ending neck injury nine years ago. He competed at the Royal Rumble in January, where his reignited troubles with Randy Orton would begin again. Edge eliminated Orton and two others before being tossed out at the hands of Roman Reigns. The next night on Raw Orton exacted revenge on Edge but not in the ring. Instead, he did the deed during a promo where which Edge was actually praising his former tag team partner. Fast forward to the March 2 episode of Raw where Orton would hit Edge’s wife Beth Phoenix with an RKO. Edge returned a week later on Raw to hit Orton with his own RKO move followed by a steel chair attack for good measure. Who can blame a man for defending his wife’s honor?
Edge has a 53.07% win rate in the WWE, a 50.39% win rate for PPV events, and wins WrestleMania singles matches 55.55% of the time. Edge won’t be sticking around the WWE for much longer, especially with Vikings Season 6 resuming soon. Expect this match to be both a shining moment, and swan song.

Orton has turned into a full on heel in just one month. For one, he sabotaged Edge’s post Royal Rumble “feel good” promo on Raw. Then two weeks later he hit Matt Hardy with an RKO and a steel chair after Hardy demanded an explanation for Orton’s actions against Edge – who just returned from a career ending injury. But his full turn to the dark side and final straw was the aforementioned attack on Edge’s wife at Raw last week. Randy Orton has been repositioned as a hated man and Edge is more than likely competing in his last WrestleMania. That said, Orton’s +220 odds to win are actually more favorable than logic dictates, so it won’t be a complete shocker if he gets the win.
