Betting on Liverpool

Liverpool’s losing woes continued on Sunday with a heart-breaking 3-1 defeat to bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday. It was another disappointing result for the Reds who have now lost three in a row against United in the English Premier League. The Reds have grabbed just a point in their last three league assignments as they slid down to 10th place in the team standings.

[sc:Soccer240banner ]The Reds will look to get their season back on track when they take on Norwich City this coming Sunday. They will fancy their chances of doing just that as they have fared extremely well against the Canaries of late. Liverpool are on a 10-match unbeaten streak against Norwich City in the English Premier League, with the Reds winning nine of those games.

For Liverpool to snap their losing skid against Norwich City, it’s crucial that they improve on their play on the offensive end. The Reds have scored just once in their last three league matches. It didn’t help matters that they only had 44 percent of the possession in their game against United.  The onus then is on Christian Benteke to carry the scoring load for the Reds against Norwich. Benteke scored a magnificent overhead kick in that 3-1 loss to United. The Reds’ second-most expensive signing has scored two goals in five league appearances for Liverpool this season.

The Reds are 2-2-2 in their last six matches.

Betting on Norwich City

Wes Hoolahan

Norwich City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 victory Sunday over fellow promoted side Bournemouth at Carrow Road. It was a historic victory for the Canaries who won their first home league game against Bournemouth since 1951. That snapped a nine-match winless streak for Norwich against the Cherries.

Wes Hoolahan stole the show for the Canaries in this game, producing a goal and an assist in this Premier League encounter. Hoolahan was his side’s main attacking threat against the Cherries and he helped to open the scoring with a perfect cross to Cameron Jerome who was able to poke the ball home. He capped off his match-winning performance with a goal in the 52nd minute, blasting a 20-yarder past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

For the Canaries to record their first win against Liverpool in 21 years this coming Sunday, they will need to control the midfield battle right from the get-go. It’s important for the Canaries to tighten up the midfield and defense and hit the Reds via the counter-attack. They utilized that strategy to perfection in their last game against Bournemouth. Even though they only had 48 percent of the possession against the Cherries, the Canaries still outshot them in attempts (12-7) and in shots on target (4-2).

For this plan to work against the Reds, the Canaries need midfielder Matt Jarvis to stretch the Liverpool defense. He was among the goal-scorers in Norwich’s win against Bournemouth. That’s his first Premier League goal since April 2014, ending a run of 18 league games without scoring.

The Canaries are 3-1-2 in their last six matches.

Writer’s Prediction

Liverpool (-190) cruise to an easy 3-0 win.
