Betting on the Florida Atlantic Owls (0-1)
Lane Kiffin’s FAU debut did not go too well. The Owls were torn to shreds by Navy’s triple-option offense, which ran for 416 yards and had five touchdowns, as FAU fell, 42-19.
Meanwhile, the Owls offense could only muster 326 total yards, converted just 5-of-14 third-downs, and had the ball for just 20 minutes on their home debut. Their running game, which is expected to be a strength this season, could only muster 40 yards.
It doesn’t figure to get much easier for FAU as they visit Camp Randall to face top-10-ranked Wisconsin.
Don’t be surprised if that game follows a similar script from the Navy game with FAU struggling to move the ball on a tough Wisconsin defense and the Badgers running the ball down the Owls’ throats.
Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (1-0)
Wisconsin had a nice performance to start their season as they recorded a pretty straightforward 59-10 win over Utah State at home, which easily covered the 27.5-point spread.
Sophomore quarterback Alex Hornibrook had a good game passing the ball. He went 15-of-23 for 244 yards and had three touchdowns.
The Badgers running game also did a lot of damage. Led by freshman Jonathan Taylor and sophomore Bradrick Shaw, Wisconsin finished with 234 yards on the ground with four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the excellent Wisconsin defense was up to its usual tricks. They held the Aggies to 304 total yards of offense and forced four turnovers.
It bodes well for Wisconsin’s chances of taking two games out of two at home after seeing how much FAU struggled both running the ball and defending the run.
The Badgers defense, which is much better than Navy’s, likely won’t allow anything on the ground once again, which will continue to limit Kiffin’s offense.
And while Wisconsin may not rack up the same amount of rushing yards as Navy’s triple-option offense, the Badgers can still move the ball very effectively on the ground. Meanwhile, Hornibrook looks improved as a passer and should provide the Badgers with more balance offensively.
Writer’s Prediction
Wisconsin (-32) deals Lane Kiffin’s FAU a second straight heavy defeat, 45-10.
