Betting on France (-123)
France will head to their showdown with Switzerland with momentum on their side after recording a 2-0 win over Albania on Tuesday. Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet each scored a late goal for Les Bleus who improved to a perfect 6-0-0 record this year. With the victory, France booked a spot in the round of 16 of this year’s European Championship.
France will fancy their chances of beating Switzerland as they have fared extremely well against them of late. They are unbeaten in their last six matches with the Nati. France thrashed Switzerland, 5-2, in their last meeting in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
France is pegged at -172 to score first in this match.
Betting on Switzerland (+370)
Switzerland moved ever closer to securing a spot in the last 16 with a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Romania at Parc des Princes. Admir Mehmedi scored a spectacular equalizer in the 57th minute to give the Swiss a valuable point. They are now in second place in Group A with four points to their name.
A victory would have put Switzerland through to the knockout stages but they were left with work to do to get out of their group after failing to convert numerous chances against Romania. Haris Seferovic missed two clear-cut opportunities in the early going before Bogdan Stancu’s second penalty of the tournament gave Romania an unexpected 18th-minute lead. Blerim Dzemali was also guilty of an awful miss, connecting badly on Stephen Lichsteiner’s delightful cross. Switzerland’s nine shot attempts were off target against Romania.
The Swiss will need to be at their best against a French side that has recorded two clean sheets in its last three matches. For Switzerland to grab the all-important victory today, it’s crucial that they dominate possession once again. La Nati had 67 percent of the possession in their game against Romania, a vast improvement from their 56 percent output in their opening match against Albania. That enabled Switzerland to unleash a whopping 19 shots, the most they have ever managed in a Euro finals fixture.
Controlling the ball is one thing but doing something with that possession is definitely another matter. The onus then is on Seferovic to step up his play against France. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has been a non-factor in this tournament thus far, failing to score in Switzerland’s opening two matches. Seferovic has scored seven goals in 29 appearances for the Nati.
Switzerland is pegged at +190 to score first in this match.
