With the MLB refusing to commit to a 2020 season opening date sports fans in the USA continue clutch on to CPBL baseball, and to be honest it’s been a great ride thus far. After a heavy schedule over the last month two key teams finally have a three day break before facing off in a single game series this Thursday – the Fubon Guardians and the Rakuten Monkeys. It’s a battle between the first (Rakuten) and the last (Fubon) in CPBL standings. But after 72 hours without having to take the field momentum goes out the door and anything can happen. Should underdog bettors up the ante on this one?

PBL Betting Odds:
Betting on the Fubon Guardians (odds)
6-9 Regular Season Record
The Fubon Guardians are coming off of a successful three game weekend series against the Uni Lions, winning two of three games on the road. They averaged nearly 10-runs per game over that stretch, but also gave up an average of 8-runs per game in the process. Prior to their trifecta against the Lions, Fubon played a two-game series against this Thursday’s opponent. Fubon lost both games to Rakuten, 3-0 and 5-3 respectively. They play differently when faced with the league leading foe, but with two wins in a row and three days off the Guardians will be refreshed. With this just being a single game against the 2019 CPBL champs there’s little doubt that pitcher Henry Sosa will start on the mound to give Fubon the power it needs to limit Rakuten’s RBIs.
Betting on the Rakuten Monkeys (odds)
11-3 Regular Season Record
The Rakuten Monkeys have a stranglehold on CPBL standings with a .786 win percentage. Like Fubon they also enjoyed a successful three-game weekend series, winning 2 of 3 against the Chinatrust Brothers. More impressively, the Monkeys averaged 11 runs per game led by Chu Yu-hsien who set the record on Sunday for fastest player to hit 10 home runs in Taiwanese professional baseball history. Yu-hsien is a beast but he’s not alone on offense, as Lan Yin-lun is a big contributor to Monkeys’ victories. Yin-lun went three for four with four RBIs on Sunday. With three days to rest their guns you’d better believe these two will come out swinging. Prior to the headline-making weekend the Monkeys enjoyed defensive success against Fubon in the April 28-29th series, holding their opponent to just 3-runs in two-games which is quite the feat in the RBI-heavy CPBL.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rakuten Monkeys beat the Fubon Guardians, 8-6.
