Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 12-6 Overall / 5-6 Conference
Georgia has built quite a momentum, having won three games in a row against the Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers, and the Vanderbilt Commodores. If the Bulldogs somehow upset the Tennessee Volunteers this Wednesday in Knoxville, then it would be time to take Georgia way more seriously. Georgia’s offense is humming right now. The Bulldogs have shot 53.3 percent from the field and 46.9 percent from deep over their last three games. On the season, Georgia is 45th nationally with 77.3 points per game. The Bulldogs are allowing 75.9 points per game, which isn’t impressive, but they can be disruptors on defense. They are 21st in the nation with 8.5 steals per game and forces opponents to commit 16.6 turnovers per contest.
Georgia is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games versus Alabama.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (odds)
Record: 16-5 Overall / 11-1 Conference
After an upset 68-65 loss at the hands of the Missouri Tigers on Feb. 6 on the road, Alabama rebounded and took down the South Carolina Gamecocks at home last Saturday, 85-70. A team that likes to jack up 3-pointers, Alabama went 12 of 34 from deep against South Carolina while also making 17 of 20 free-throw attempts. If the Bulldogs want to engage the Crimson Tide in a shootout, Alabama isn’t going to have a problem with it. Alabama is the best 3-point shooting team in the SEC with a 39.2 3-point shooting percentage. But it’s also Alabama’s defense and Georgia’s sloppiness that will likely hurt the Bulldogs more. Alabama is No. 1 in the conference with opponents scoring just 89.3 points against the Crimson Tide per 100 possessions. SEC teams are also shooting just 25.0 percent from deep against them. Georgia likes to pressure on the defense, but it also shoots itself in the foot a lot of times. The Bulldogs are averaging 16.9 turnovers per game and have a 19.2 turnover percentage — both sub-300 in the national rankings.
Alabama is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven home games. The under is 4-1 in Alabama’s last five games.
Writer’s Prediction
Alabama wins, 86-72.
