Betting on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-4 Overall / 5-3 Conference)

The Yellow Jackets are oozing with confidence this late in the season. They have extended their win streak to four games after downing the Virginia Cavaliers in overtime of a 30-27 win at home. As usual, Georgia Tech nearly totally ditched airing the ball out, as quarterback TaQuon Marshall only had a pass completion on eight attempts for 37 yards. Instead, the Yellow Jackets rode their ground attack like their lives depended on it, as they compiled 268 rushing yards and a touchdown on 52 carries. The Yellow Jackets’ triple option can be too tricky to stop for opponents, and it can be even for Georgia. After all, the Bulldogs just allowed 103 rushing yards and a touchdown to football minnows Massachusetts Minutemen last week. Georgia Tech is second in the nation with an 86.59 rushing plays percentage, and it’s not likely going to change its ways this late in the season. The Bulldogs can also make big plays on the other side of the ball, as evidenced by their average of 2.2 takeaways per game, which is ninth most in the FBS.

The Yellow Jackets are 3-0 ATS in their last three road games.

Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (10-1 Overall / 7-1 Conference)

The Bulldogs can’t afford to lose this game against Georgia Tech. A loss would virtually mean a cancellation of their bid for a College Football Playoff spot, as they have the Alabama Crimson Tide waiting for them in December. Georgia should be well-equipped in trying to take down the Yellow Jackets. For one, they now seem to have two quarterbacks they can start and expect good results from. Jake Fromm started under center for Georgia in last week’s 66-27 win over the Minutemen and went 5-of-5 for 106 yards and a touchdown, while freshman Justin Fields came in and racked up 121 passing yards and two touchdowns on 5-of-8 completions. Fields also dealt ample damage on the ground by rushing for 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Fields is the dual-threat quarterback the Bulldogs can use to serve Georgia Tech a taste of its own medicine, but Fromm is the experienced gunslinger who can slice the Bulldogs’ defense that surrenders 234.6 passing yards per game.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 ATS in their last five home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Georgia wins, 30-21.
