Betting on the Golden State Warriors (57-25 Regular Season)

There was Kevin Durant then there were the rest of the Warriors in Game 3’s 126-121 road loss on Saturday to the Rockets in Game 3. Durant continue to be a walking scoring machine in the playoffs, as the former league MVP led all scorers with 46 points on 14-for-31 shooting from the field in 50 minutes. There’s only so much Durant could do, and it was clear that if Golden State was going to eliminate Houston, the Warriors will have to get more from their other stars on the offensive end. That’s another way to say that Stephen Curry will have to wake up and play like the Stephen Curry we all know. The two-time NBA MVP is having a subpar series  by his standards. He scored 17 points in Game 3 but shot 7-for-23, including a 2-for-9 shooting from behind the arc. Curry has averaged just 18.3 points in the last three games but on a salty 35.3 percent shooting.

The over is 4-1 in Golden State’s last five road games.

Betting on the Houston Rockets (53-29 Regular Season)

James Harden was playing with a reddened eye in Game 3, but not as red as the temperature of his hands, as the reigning league MVP led the Rockets with 41 points on 14-for-32 shooting with nine rebounds and six assists in 45 minutes of action.  Harden has simply been unstoppable in the playoffs thus far. He’s averaging 30.5 points per game since the regular season ended. He’s upped those numbers in the second round of the playoffs in which he’s putting up 35.0 points per game against the Warriors. Another key for Houston in the Game 3 win was the team’s outside shooting. The Rockets went 18-for-42 from distance for 42.9 percent shooting. Taking some offense load off Harden’s shoulders is crucial for the Rockets, who got 30 points from Eric Gordon in Game 3. Gordon bounced back from a 15-point effort in Game 2, as opened up driving lanes for Harden and the Rockets by stretching the Warriors’ defense with his incredible 3-point shooting, nailing seven triples on Saturday.

Houston is 8-1-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Houston wins, 112-110.
