Betting on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (odds)
Record: 24-3 Overall/13-1 Conference
Gonzaga needed just a win to get to the title game of the 2022 WCC tournament. The Bulldogs ended the San Francisco Dons’ March Madness dreams with an 81-71 win in the tournament’s semifinals round Monday night. Gonzaga’s frontcourt tandem of Drew Timme and Chet Holmgren was simply too much for the Dons. Timme had 22 points, while Holmgren had 17. At their full potential, no team should be able to beat the Bulldogs in the WCC. Well, the Gaels did. However, beating Gonzaga twice in three games is tough, to say the least. Gonzaga’s offense averaged 88.3 points in the regular season, the No.1 in the nation. Adjustments will certainly be applied by Mark Few on his team in this upcoming rematch against the Gaels.
The Under is 7-3 in Gonzaga’s last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Saint Mary’s Gaels (odds)
Record: 25-6 Overall/12-3 Conference
Saint Mary’s got the job done in the seminfinals of the WCC tournament, ensuring that the Gaels will get another crack this season at Gonzaga. The Gaels defeated the Santa Clara Broncos Monday night, 75-72. They allowed more points in that game than what they let Gonzaga score in Saint Mary’s 67-57 victory over the Bulldogs at home on Feb. 26. In that game, the Gaels held Gonzaga to only 36.7 percent shooting from the field, which may look like a fluke to many, but Saint Mary’s has always shown that it has the defensive chops to do it. In fact, the Gaels are ninth in the nation in adjusted defensive efficiency with just 89.9 points allowed per 100 possessions. The Gaels play brutally slow, as well, which usually frustrates their opponents’ attacks.
Saint Mary’s is 5-4-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Gonzaga wins, 80-65.
