Betting on the Houston Texans (+2.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-1-1
The Texans are far from becoming even a playoff contender in the NFL, but they managed to look good in moments in Week 2’s 16-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on the road. That’s particularly an assessment apt for Houston’s defense which should be commended for making life harder for Russell Wilson and the Broncos, which were held to only 3/12 on third downs and also came away with a defensive interception. If they could do that to Wilson, the Texans should feel good about their chances of slowing down Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who just got wrecked at Lambeau Field.
The Texans, who have not allowed more than 20 points in a game this season, are 3-1 against the spread in their last four outings away from home.
Betting on the Chicago Bears (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 1-1
As mentioned earlier, the Bears got embarrassed by the Green Bay Packers Sunday night, as Fields and company failed to follow up their stunning win at home against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 with another upset. The Bears lost to Green Bay, 27-10, with Fields going just 7/11 for 70 passing yards (0 touchdowns, 1 INT) while taking three sacks for a loss of 22 yards. But at least David Montgomery churned out a solid game, rushing for 122 yards on 15 carries. Khalil Herbert was also efficient with 38 yards on four carries. Fields also made noise on the ground with a touchdown run, but that was obviously not enough. It’s one thing to square off with Aaron Rodgers, and it’s another to play against Davis Mills. The Bears should be more competitive back at home against a seemingly punch-less Texans offense.
The Bears are 2-0 against the spread in their last two home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bears win, 19-17.
