Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones (9-9 Overall / 2-4 Conference)
Solomon Young came through for the Cyclones on Tuesday, leading his team to an 89-82 win at home over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Young, a junior forward from Sacramento, came out of nowhere and had his best game of the season by posting 27 points and going 13 for 15 from the free-throw line. Prior to this performance, Young had not scored more than six points in any of the last six games he played in. The Cyclones can’t expect Young to put up such a brilliant offensive performance each game, considering that he’s only averaging 8.9 points per outing, but this could also be the start of something great for the team, which needs a third wheel to complement Tyrese Haliburton and Rasir Bolton. Haliburton and Bolton are carrying much of the scoring load for Iowa State, with the former averaging 15.9 points per game, while the latter is chipping in 14.7 per contest.
The under is 2-0 in the Cyclones’ last two road games.
Betting on the Auburn Tigers (16-2 Overall / 4-2 Conference)
The Tigers prevented a three-game losing skid by stopping the South Carolina Gamecocks in a convincing 80-67 win at home last Wednesday. After suffering from an incredibly cold shooting from deep in their previous two games in which they went 11 for 51 from behind the arc in their losses to the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators — both on the road — the Tigers drained 10 of 27 3-point shots against the Gamecocks. Having their long-range shooting touch back should only bolster Auburn’s confidence in jacking up more shots from distance. On the season, Auburn is third in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with 8.1 triples per contest. In fact, Auburn’s offense is significantly predicated on 3-point shooting, as they are 67th overall in the nation in terms of percentage of shots taken from the 3-point region (42.2). When Auburn gets hot, it can rack up points in a hurry. The Tigers are 13th in the nation with 79.0 points per game. They also rebound the ball well, with 41.1 boards per contest.
The Tigers are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Auburn wins, 77-72.
