Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
Losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill in the offseason is a huge blow to the Chiefs’ offense, but not really debilitating since they still have quarterback Patrick Mahomes who can make a lot of things happen with just his presence alone. Plus the Chiefs still have tight end Travis Kelce and also welcomed two new additions to the receiving corps, with vets JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez-Valdes Scantling arriving in town. The Chiefs’ offense should remain explosive, and that’s the brand the team’s backups are looking to show in Week 1 of the preseason. Rookie wide receiver Skyy Moore might be the name to watch out for in this game on the side of Kansas City, as not a few believe that he has a great breakout potential right in his very first year in the NFL. But don’t forget the Chiefs’ defense that reloaded with two studs via the 2022 NFL Draft with selections of first-rounders cornerback Trent McDuffie and defensive end George Karlaftis.
The Chiefs are 2-1 against the spread in their last three preseason games.
Betting on the Chicago Bears (-+3)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Bears are in a transitional phase with a new head coach and general manager in Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles, so there must be extra focus on these preseason games for Chicago. It might also be for the same reason why Eberflus recently said that he is planning to put the Bears’ starting unit in Week 1 of the preseason against the Chiefs. That means Justin Fields will be there to take the first snap under center alongside the likes of wide receiver Darnell Mooney and running back David Montgomery. That said, they might not be on the field for a long time, with the second and third-stringers still expected to finish the job on the field. Still, that’s a big note to remember for those looking to lay money on the Bears, whether straight up or against the spread.
Speaking of which, the Bears are 2-2-1 against the spread in their last five games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bears win, 23-20.
