Kansas City Chiefs vs Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – NFL Week 2 – September 16 2018

The Kansas City Chiefs looked like they are just going to be fine with Patrick Mahomes under center for them, as they won their first game of the season in a fantastic fashion. But can Mahomes and the Chiefs continue their success in Pittsburgh, where the Pittsburgh Steelers will try to notch their first victory of the new NFL campaign?

In the NFL Futures, the Chiefs are +2,200 to win the Super Bowl, while the Steelers have a much shorter price of +500.

Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)

The Patrick Mahomes era in Kansas City officially began and it was a success, as the Chiefs downed the Los Angeles Chargers on the road last week, 38-28. That’s a lot of points against a supposedly good Chargers defense even though LA was missing Joey Bosa, though, the Chiefs do really have the tools to go on a scoring spree on any given game. Against the Chargers, Mahomes threw for256 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was a recipient of two touchdown passes from Mahomes and finished the game with 169 receiving yards on seven receptions. The tandem of Mahomes and Hill is going to be a problem for many opposing defensive coordinators including Keith Butler of the Steelers, whose unit just gave up 106 receiving yards to Jarvis Landry last week. However, the Chiefs could also look to run the ball more after rushing just 27 times in the Chargers game. After all, Pittsburgh allowed 177 rushing yards and two rushing scores to Cleveland in Week 1.

The Chiefs are 2-0 ATS in their last two road games.

Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (0-0)

Steelers franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sustained an elbow injury in last week’s 21-21 tie with Cleveland, though, it reportedly isn’t serious. But if Big Ben will be hampered by it, then expect running back James Conner to be fed with increased workload in the backfield. With Le’Veon Bell still a no show for Pittsburgh, which has already removed the controversial running back off their depth chart, Conner is set to be the team’s bell cow for at least another game. Last week against the Browns, Conner exploded for 135 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. He also racked up 57 yards on five catches. Conner should perplex Kansas City’s defense and if anything, take away some of the defensive focus away from Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster, who had 93 and 119 receiving yards, respectively, in the Cleveland game. Roethlisberger is also going to need better effort from the offensive line after getting sacked four times for a loss of 22 yards last Sunday. That’s going to be said than done with Steelers right guard David DeCastro nursing a broken hand, though, he could brave through the injury and play.

The over is 3-0 in Pittsburgh’s last three games.

Writer’s Prediction

Pittsburgh wins, 28-23.
