Betting on the Washington Commanders (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
Although the Commanders picked up a 23-21 home loss to the Carolina Panthers last Saturday, they still have to like what they saw from Sam Howell. Carson Wentz is going to be the team’s starter in Week 1 of the 2022 regular season, but Howell showed a bit of what he can if the Commanders turn to him in the future with a solid outing against the Panthers. In that game, Howell went 9/16 for 145 yards. He was not able to throw for a touchdown but he also did not turn the ball over. Plus, he rushed for two touchdowns and 19 yards on just three carries. He might just have taken the lead in Washington’s backup QB battle against Taylor Heinicke, who went 4/9 with an interception against Carolina.
The Over is 2-0 in the Commanders’ last two preseason games. Washington is also 4-6 against the spread in their last 10 preseason games on the road.
Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (odds)
Regular Season Record: 0-1
The Chiefs absorbed a 19-14 road loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason, but they’ll be happy to finally return home and play on a much better turf condition than the one they had to deal with at Soldier Field. Patrick Mahomes played for a few snaps in the Bears game and went 6/7 for 60 passing yards and a touchdown. Kansas City’s ground attack could do better after rushing for just 52 yards on 19 carries for a pathetic 2.7 yards per carry average. Defensively, Kansas City looked good against the Bears, particularly the Chiefs’ pass rush that produced five sacks.
The Chiefs are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 games in the preseason as the home team. The Under is 5-4 in the Chiefs’ last nine preseason games at Arrowhead Stadium.
Writer’s Prediction
The Chiefs win, 24-17.
