The Andrew Wiggins hype train has been losing a bit of steam recently. The highly touted freshman has struggled in Kansas’ run of three games in three nights in the Bahamas, with his point totals dropping from 17 to 10 to 6, the latter two being the lowest of his young career. Wiggins has also failed to crack 20 points since his game-winning performance against Duke. [sc:NCAAB240banner ]

Not coincidentally, the Jayhawks have struggled with Wiggins’ dip in production. They suffered their first loss of the season in a close contest against Villanova, and they could only defeat UTEP by four points.

With their young phenom stumbling, other players have stepped up to carry the load. Sophomore Perry Ellis is currently the team’s leading scorer at 15 points/game, and KU’s other potential NBA-bound freshman, big man Joel Embiid (9 points, 7 rebounds, 67% FG), has been one of the team’s most consistent players.

So far, the freshman quartet of Wiggins, Embiid, Wayne Selden Jr. and Frank Mason have accounted for half of the team’s average of 80 points/game.

Can Wiggins get back on track and lead his team to a big road win? Bet now on the Kansas Jayhawks.

Betting on the Florida Gators

After an early-season loss against a tough Wisconsin team on the road, the Florida Gators have now reeled off five wins in a row as of December 2. They won the first four games by an average of over 20 points a game until eking out a one-point win against state-rivals Florida State. [sc:NCAAB240banner ]

The Gators weathered the suspension of senior guard Scottie Wilbekin for the first five games of the season, and his return came at exactly the right time. Freshman Kasey Hill, who had been holding down the fort with Wilbekin out, went down with a high-ankle sprain and could be sidelined for over a month.

Wilbekin (15 assists in two games) will now have the pleasure of setting up senior Casey Prather (19.1 points) and sophomore Michael Frazier II (14.4 points), who have emerged as the team’s top offensive weapons this season. Prather is shooting 64% from the field, while Frazier is averaging 3.1 3-pointers per game on 5.8 attempts: a sizzling 53.7%.

Dorian Finney-Smith – a transfer from Virginia Tech – is also playing well upon his return from suspension, averaging 11.8 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game.

Will the Gators contribute to the diminishing stock of Wiggins? Bet now on the Florida Gators.
