Betting on the Kansas State Wildcats

The Kansas State Wildcats preserved their perfect Big 12 record with a resounding 48-14 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday night. That’s five wins in a row for the streaking Wildcats who now enter a tough stretch of games starting with their away clash with TCU this coming Saturday.

[sc:NCAA240banner ]In order for them to grab that all-important victory this coming weekend, the Wildcats will have to carry their defensive form that has been the key to their current winning streak. That was very much evident in the game against Oklahoma State in which they limited the Cowboys to a paltry 48 yards in total offense in the second half.

Of course, Oklahoma State and TCU are two very different teams. The Horned Frogs dominate the offensive end, averaging 573.0 yards per game in total offense this season, second best in the FBS. They are an even better at home, averaging 47.8 points per contest in Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Wildcats, though, have already proven this season that they are an excellent defensive team, allowing just 19.3 points per assignment in their first seven games. For them to have a shot at stopping the Horned Frogs, they will need to limit quarterback Trevone Boykin.

In his last home game, Boykin went berserk completing 22 of 39 passes for 433 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns. The Wildcats, however, in their two road games this season, have allowed an average of just 274.5 passing yards per game. Limiting Boykin to that sort of production on Saturday will go a long way in seeing them extend their winning streak to six games.

The Wildcats are 2-0 on the road this season.

Betting on the TCU Horned Frogs

Trevone Boykin

The TCU Horned Frogs’ Playoff hopes are still very much alive after escaping with a narrow 31-30 victory over Big 12 rivals West Virginia on Saturday night. Ever since these two schools entered the conference back in 2012, they have been involved in some epic matchups and last night was no different as they engaged in a thrilling affair with TCU making the big plays at the endgame to pull off the victory.

Jaden Oberkrom was the savior for the Horned Frogs as he kicked a 37-yard field goal in the dying seconds of the game to give TCU their third-straight victory. It was a fortunate win for the Horned Frogs as they saw their high-flying offense misfire in this game.

A week after demolishing Texas Tech 82-27, TCU recorded its worst offensive output of the season, only managing 31 points in this ballgame. They were held to a season-low 389 yards as they found it difficult to breach the West Virginia defense.

They will need to do much better against Kansas State this coming Saturday if they are to extend their winning streak to four games. The onus then is on Trevone Boykin to improve on his play. A week after setting a school-record with seven touchdowns, the junior quarterback was limited to just 12 of 30 passing for 166 yards and a touchdown.

It won’t get any easier for Boykin as the Wildcats own the 20th-best defense in the nation, allowing an average of just 329.7 yards per game. It’s imperative for Boykin to get his rhythm early. Prior to the game against WVU, TCU was the only remaining team in the FBS to have scored 24 first-half points in all of their ballgames.

That streak was snapped on Saturday night as they only managed to put up seven points at the halftime break. A faster start will breathe confidence to a TCU offense that is best in the entire nation with a 50.4 PPG clip this season.

Writer’s Prediction

The Horned Frogs beat the Wildcats, 45-31.
