Betting on the Kent State Golden Flashes (1-2)
The scheduling gods were not kind to Kent State to start the year. They were first delivered the national champion Clemson Tigers in Week 1 and Marshall Thundering Herd in Week 3. Given, they pulled off a 38-31 over the Howard Bison in Week 2, Kent State is going nowhere fast. This team may have a chance at beating the spread, but even that is reaching. They were dominated by Clemson in the opening week 56-3 and have since been outscored 115-34. Their offense flat out is not strong enough to compete and their defense has looked like swiss cheese on more than one occasion. Let’s try and make an argument though.
Marshall quarterback Chase Lytton made a mockery of the Kent State’s zone last week for Marshall. He shredded their defense, not only through the air, but also walked in a 14-yard scamper as well. Meanwhile, rotating QB’s George Bollas and Dustin Crum were sacked seven times on the night as well.
If the Kent State offensive line can provide triple-A protection all day long, we’re talking JB Power and Associates award winning protection, Kent State may have a chance at the spread. However, for that to happen, their defense will have to finish plays as well. Time and time again this season they have given up on their man and it’s provided some embarrassing highlights on their part.
Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (2-1)
The Louisville Cardinals can use this game as a feel good redemption-type story. Following their 47-21 beating at the hands of Clemson, Lamar Jackson will have to find his game once again. It shouldn’t be hard to do against Kent State, but he’ll need to get back to his staggering 525 total yard and six total touchdown performance of Week 2 against North Carolina.
For this to happen, their offensive line will have to be sound. This game should have win painted all over it regardless, but a little bit of extra time in the pocket will do Jackson a world of good. He can get his confidence back early and make the Golden Flashes D guess pass or run all day.
Louisville should have enough in the tank to beat the spread and absolutely dominate Kent State from the opening whistle all the way through. This could be the red bird’s biggest scoreboard of the season if they can get Jackson moving early.
Writer’s Prediction
Louisville (-44) doesn’t even blink with a 66-10 win.
