Betting on the Kentucky Wildcats (+6)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
The Wildcats simply overpowered the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks last Saturday to kick off their 2022 campaign. Kentucky crushed and easily covered the spread in its 37-13 win ove the RedHawks, thanks in large part to quarterback Will Levis’ arm, which produced 303 passing yards and three touchdowns with an interception. The ground attack came up with barely anything for Kentucky, as it rushed for just 50 yards, so a bit more variety in the Wildcats’ attack is to be expected against the much sturdier Florida defense. Then again, why run when the Wildcats have wide receiver Tayvion Robinson wreaking havoc all game long? Robinson finished with 136 receiving yards on just eight catches. He might have to sustain that form, especially if running back Chris Rodriguez misses aniother game due to an undisclosed reason.
Kentucky is 3-0-1 against the spread in its last 4 games overall.
Betting on the Florida Gators (-6)
Record: 1-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Florida will come into Saturday’s game brimming with confidence. And how can the Gators not? They just defeated the no. 7 Utah Utes, the reigning Pac-12 champions, in the season-opener at home to the tune of a 29-26 score. Quarterback Anthony Richardson put his dual-threat capabilities on full display in that game, passing for 168 yards on 17/24 completions and rushing for 103 yards and three touchdowns. Winning a game against a top-10 team right out of the gate is a huge boost to Florida, and that should make the Gators even more primed to score another upset at home against Kentucky. The Gators also debuted a new rushing weapon in transferee Montrell Johnson, who went off for 77 rushing yards and a score on 12 carries. That’s another potential source of headache for Kentucky’s defense that wasn’t really tested in Week 1.
Florida is 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games in September.
Writer’s Prediction
Florida wins, 27-21.
