Betting on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (21-4)

The No. 12 Bulldogs boast of a robust offense that manufactures a dizzying average of 86.6 points per game. May even more dizzying is their ball movement. Gonzaga’s offense is not on any one Bulldog’s hand alone. The team is averaging 16.5 assists per game with six players averaging at least 10.3 points per game. Johnathan Williams leads the group with 13.6 points per game, while Josh Perkins is right behind him with 13.2 points. The Bulldogs are shooting 50.5 percent from the field, but they only shot 47.5 percent on Jan. 18 at home when they lost 74-71 at home to the Gaels. Perkins scored just six points in that game but Rui Hachimura fired 23 points off the bench in a losing effort. Although the Bulldogs have plenty of scorers, it would help them greatly if Perkins put up a better performance on Saturday.

Gonzaga is 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five meeting with the Gaels.

Betting on the St Mary’s Gaels (23-2)

It’s almost a year since the Gaels lasts dropped a home game. Dating back to Feb. 16 of last year, the Gaels have won all of their 16 games in Moraga. They are 19-1 SU in their last 20 games overall. The team’s success this season can be attributed to their defense that surrenders just 64.2 points per game. That said, their offense has probably a bigger role to their strong season. The Gaels are tops nationally with a 52.4 field goal percentage. They are sixth with a 42.0 three-point shooting percentage. Their effective field goal percentage is at 59.2 percent, second overall in Division I. Center Jock Landale is a force down low. The 6-foot-11 big man is averaging 22.8 pints on 65.8 FG5 and gets 10.8 rebounds per game. Landale had 26 points (12-15 FG0 and 12 boards with three assists and two blocks to boot in the first meeting with Gonzaga.

Writer’s Prediction:

St. Mary’s repeats over Gonzaga with a 77-73 victory at home.
