Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (1-1)
The Chargers finally broke into the win column this season, thanks to a 31-20 win over the seemingly going nowhere Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Chargers’ pass rush took Buffalo’s offensive line to the woodshed despite not having the services of the injured sack-machine Joey Bosa. The Chargers had five sacks in that game and also picked Buffalo rookie quarterback Josh Allen twice. The Chargers, however, can’t expect that much success, on both ends of the field, against the considerably stronger Rams unit. Still, Philip Rivers poses a big threat to the Rams. Rivers went 23 of 27 for 256 passing yards and three touchdowns against Buffalo. Rivers is orchestrating the third-best scoring offense in the NFL, as the Chargers are racking up 29.5 points per game thus far. Meanwhile, running back Melvin Gordon also did plenty of damage on the Bills, as he rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown and added 38 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. He got hurt in the game, though, it’s considered a minor one, so there shouldn’t be much concern about his availability this coming Sunday.
The Chargers are 3-1 ATS in their last four games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (2-0)
The Rams barely broke a sweat in annihilating the hapless Arizona Cardinals on their way to a 34-0 win at home on Sunday. Quarterback Jared Goff tossed the ball for 354 passing yards with a touchdown on 24-of-32 completions, while running back Todd Gurley scored three rushing touchdowns. The Rams’ defense fully sunk its teeth on Arizona, which was held to only 137 total yards. The Rams are allowing just 266.0 total yards and 6.5 points per game. The Chargers presents a bigger challenge for the Rams’ stop unit, but Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh can slow down Melvin Gordon and the ground and a stacked secondary behind the defensive tackle could limit the production of Philip Rivers. The Rams are sixth in the NFL with only 191.5 passing yards allowed per game and fifth against the run with only 74.5 rushing yards surrendered each week. The Rams were not able to force a turnover the Cardinals, which should only give Donald and company additional motivation to try harder.
The under is 5-2 in the Rams’ last seven home games.
Writer’s Prediction
Rams win, 24-20.
